All camps run during summer weeks except June 24 - 28, July 1 - 5, July 29 - Aug 2 and Aug 12 - 14

PRIVATE VOCAL RECORDING INTENSIVE:

Monday - Thursday: 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM | Maximum enrollment: 1 persons | Camp fee: $1050

This four-day camp is for the student who is a serious singer and wants the opportunity to take their craft to the next level. In this camp, students will choose 2 of their favorite songs to record professionally in my home studio. Along the way, students will learn about the recording process, microphone technique, and gain confidence in hearing their recorded voice. I will mix the final recordings (levels, adding effects, panning, automation and EQ) to deliver two professional, polished pieces of music within one week of the camp ending.

SAMPLE DAILY SCHEDULE:

10:30 - 10:45 AM: Vocal Warm-up

10:45 - 12:00 AM: Sound check and begin recording. We will begin by laying down the guide vocal track. An explanation of each step of the recording process will be explained in detail. The student will also learn to control aspects of the recording: mic control for recording, post production effects like reverb/delay, other ways to manipulate recorded sound

12:00 - 12:45 PM: Outdoor lunch break (weather permitting)

12:45 - 2 PM: Continue with our recording process. Go over any questions and review a general summary of what we’ve learned throughout the day. Listen back to our recordings - give feedback, make notes on what overdubs should be addressed etc. In the subsequent days, we will layer our vocal parts with harmony to make more full arrangements of the songs

HARMONY SINGING 101:

Monday - Friday: 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM | Minimum Enrollment - 3 persons // Max Enrollment - 6 persons [$625 per person]

This one-week camp is for anyone who loves to sing, who wants to stretch their musicianship as a singer and learn to sing well with others (and make new friends!). Over the course of the week we will have fun learning how to listen to each other and sing together, hold our part while giving space to other parts, and train our ears to sing multiple parts together in harmony. The week will culminate with the students giving an outdoor concert of the pieces we learned.

What is harmony singing? Vocal harmony is a style of music whereby a group of singers sing a set of consonant notes composing the main melody. The overall sound of the melody is fuller and more complex. (See example to the right for melody versus melody with harmony.) While it can be challenging at first to sing and hold other parts that differ from the main melody, over time our ears and brains hone in on natural harmonies and this becomes easier.

We will begin each morning with a physical warm-up and vocal warm-up. After the initial warm up, we will engage in a unique vocal exercise daily that encourages listening to one another - layering different voices and musical sounds with our voices or singing through a round (singing the same piece of music but starting at different times which creates natural harmony). Over the course of the week, we will learn two pieces of music that will be performed Friday afternoon in an outdoor concert for anyone to attend.

SAMPLE DAILY SCHEDULE

10:30AM-12PM - Warm Up/Physical Stretch/Active listening/begin working through the piece

12PM - 1PM - Outdoor lunch break, social time, relax, get to know each other activity

1PM- 2PM - Review and work on second piece (will will stay outdoors for this segment, weather permitting)

Logic X Pro Interface for creating music

Logic X Pro Interface for creating music

Logic X Pro is the industry standard for composers, engineers, producers and songwriters. Using Logic X Pro software and a built-in digital sample library of over 1,000 sounds, students will have the opportunity to compose and record their original songs in this 3-day digital composition intensive. Students will also have access to a wide array of musical instruments such as midi keyboards, ukuleles, percussion instruments, dynamic microphones and other tools to create lush/creative and experimental compositions that students eventually bring home to share with their family.

Over the course of the Composition Lab, students will create five different compositions, focusing on a variety of different techniques, skills, and musical concepts. Along the way, students will also learn the basics of Logic X Pro software and will have the opportunity to control the program on their own, through guidance and pointed instruction. NOTE: Because we will share one workstation and studio setup, camp size will be limited to maximum enrollment of 2 students per session. More on Logic X Pro by Apple. [Full Camp Schedule]
